Introduction to an Avid Netflixer :)

Hi! My name is Chelsee Aguirre. I just started my senior year here at OU and I am from Hydro, OK which is a really small town. My high school graduating class was only thirty-two students! I'm majoring in Psychology and minoring in Human Relations and I plan on going to graduate school for Higher Education Administration after I graduate and work in student affairs and hopefully eventually become a dean of a college! This semester I am taking a graduate class from OU's Adult and Higher Ed program, and I am a little nervous about it, but mainly excited since it's what I want to do as my career. I am also a TA for a gateway class, which I think is going to make for a great semester.

In my spare time I enjoy reading (Harry Potter is my favorite), listening to Broadway soundtracks (Hamilton, Book of Mormon, Wicked, and so many more), getting overly attached to fictional TV show characters because I love Netflix (Doctor Who, The Office - which I am actually watching as a write this -, Shadowhunters, Sherlock, Jane the Virgin, and many, many more), traveling, ice cream (Cappuccino Chocolate Chunk from Braums is HANDS DOWN the best), and spending time with my friends!! My favorite color is blue and my go-to karaoke song is Copacabana by Barry Manilow!

Over the summer I worked for University College and helped all the freshman enroll and it was such a fun and exciting time! After that I went to Mexico for vacation for my boyfriend's sister's 21st birthday! I tried octopus and it surprisingly was not that bad (another thing I have been a picky eater for a very long time and I am finally starting to eat more food!). Some of my favorite foods include chocolate, pizza, strawberries, bread, bananas, broccoli, and greek yogurt. I finally just starting cooking for myself this year because I lived in my sorority house for the last two years, and I've really enjoyed being able to cook for myself and get to choose what I am going to eat. I haven't made anything too crazy mainly chicken/beef and veggies, but I am excited to start branching out and cooking different recipes!

  1. It is so nice to meet someone planning a career in higher education, Chelsee! Wonderful! Taking a graduate class will be a great way to start building your professional network. Do you use Twitter? It is such a powerful tool for educators; if you are not using Twitter already, there are some tech tips you can do for this class to get started using Twitter. I learn so much from my teacher network at Twitter! And I hope you will enjoy this class: books and shows like Harry Potter or Doctor Who are perfect sources for storytelling ideas that you can then combine with the stories and characters you meet in the epics. Maybe you will create a Doctor Who Storybook, having the Doctor get involved in some ancient Indian adventures! :-)

  2. Hey Chelsee! Wow, we have so much in common! I am also a Psych major, I love Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Shadowhunters, all of that fun stuff!

I also think it's really interesting that you want to go into Higher Ed and even have your long-term goals (like being a dean one day) set out. It sounds like a really fun and rewarding path to take! Best of luck with your senior year, all your studies, and grad school :)

  3. Hi Chelsee,
Fellow netflix lover here! Recently my friends have gotten me into Friends and seven seasons later I'm an official addict. I binge watched Sherlock this summer so I completly understand how you could like it. I haven't started on the office, but I'm almost certainly going to start on that next. It's cool what you plan on doing with your psychology degree. At one point I was thinking about minoring in psychology, but I just never found the time. Good luck on your senior year!

  4. Hey Chelsee! I am also a fellow netflixer. Doctor who and Sherlock are defiantly in my top ten favorite TV shows. I actually used to be a Psychology major and although I found it interesting I decided I couldn't see myself doing that for the rest of my life and I switched to an Architecture major. It's nice that you started to eat more food. I'm also a picky eater, but I haven't started to eat more food. Good luck with this semester and I hope you achieve your long term goals.

  5. Hello Chelsea, my name is Taylor and I am also a Senior! Woot! Woot! We are almost to the end of Undergraduate School. I enjoy watching Netflix as well I just wish I had more to devote myself to it. Ice Cream is a must 7 days a week! Well maybe not that much but it ends up like that sometimes. My favorite thing to get a Braums is a vanilla mix with heath and pecans. I also love to cook cajun food, so if you ever have an itch for it just let me know in my blog! Ill be more than happy to send you some recipes to try!

  6. Hi Chelsee! I personally related to your entire second paragraph. I'm the typical Netflix binger that also gets invested in Characters, I especially got emotionally attached to Michael from Jane the Virgin! I didn't get into Hamilton until right before summer started, but I listen to it every time I get into the car now. It is SO good. Sounds like you had a great summer :)

  7. Hi Chelsee!

I thought I was from a small town (my graduating class was 72), but that is a different level of small! It must have been quite a change going from your high school to a large, state school like OU.
I also think it is great that you want to work in education and administration. As of right now, I just want to be a teacher, but I think at some point I will want to be an Athletic Director at a high school.

Good luck on the rest of the semester!

  8. Hi Chelsee! That's crazy awesome that you're career goal is to someday be a dean of a college! You're already taking great steps to reaching your goal and that's amazing. It seems we have quite a bit in common, especially getting sucked in to T.V. shows and falling in love lol. It's the best being entranced by those shows. Netflix is life! I, too, love to travel, eat ice cream and hang with friends. When I get a chance, I am definitely going to have to try that Cappuccino Chocolate Chunk. I'm surprised I haven't tried it yet! Mexico sounds so great, my best friend actually moved there, to Playa del Carmen near Cancun, which is super exciting. I am not quite a picky eater, but I'm glad you're starting to branch out, there's plenty of great food out there! It's good that you're starting to cook more too, to help out in case other foods don't work. It's good to know what you're putting into your system. I'm hoping to start cooking and learning from my mom after I graduate as well. It's so great to meet you Chelsee! Good luck to you this semester and the years to come, can't wait to see what stories you have to offer!

  9. Chelsee, you seem like a very outgoing, charismatic person! You love a lot of things that I love, like Harry Potter (I'm a Hufflepuff, you?), Netflix, and Braum's. I just moved into a new place and also hope to start cooking some "real" food soon! It's cool that your goal is to be the dean of a college. I've never heard of anyone aspiring to be a dean, but working in a university has always seemed fun to me! Well, best of luck. I'm sure you will do well with storytelling in this class!

  10. Hey Chelsee! Harry Potter is still my shiz. I was most certainly a Griffindor. You seem really down to earth and chill! I think it's awesome that you want to be involved in higher education- I might say I plan to be there one day as well. I know what you mean about cooking for yourself. honestly, the older I get the less I like eating out, and the more I like choosing my own ingredients! Being an adult is getting way fun isn't it?! Anyways, I'm looking forward to checking out your story.

  11. Hi, Chelsee!
I am a senior too! I’m also from a small town, called Piedmont. My high school graduating class was relatively small too (around one hundred students). I think Psychology is an interesting major, I was so close to switch to this major last year. I didn’t do so because of the extra classes I have to take and it will simply delay my graduation. It’s great that you are already working on the things that are related to your future career goals.

    Good luck!

  12. Hey Chelsee!
Okay, I definitely thought my graduating class around 100 students was small, but 32 students? Wow!
Being a TA for gateway classes would be a really cool job for sure. I remember taking that freshman year and I loved it! I also love broadway soundtracks, and I'm going to New York in December and FINALLY getting to see Wicked!
Man, who doesn't just love Netflix? I do wish they would add some more new shows because all of us fanatics have already seen everything they have!
You seem so prepared for the future and determined to get to where you want to be which is awesome.
I hope you have a great senior year!

  13. Hi, Chelsee!
Majoring in Psychology: that's so great! I have not dealt with it much beyond Intro to Psych for Non-majors, but it is such an interesting science. I also love watching Netflix, though I don't have the time to do that much at the moment. Sherlock is such a good show... If you're down for trying new foods, you should try that new Indian restaurant, Shiva, in Norman in the spirit of this class. I have not been there yet, but I have been told it is pretty good.
I hope your semester is going well!

  14. Chelsee,

I am also an avid Netflix watcher and can sit down for hours at a time watching the most random things. I think it is really cool that you are a Psychology major as that has been one of my favorite classes in college so far. I wish I would of sprung for a minor in Psychology as that is what my sister did with her degree. I hope you have a great semester!

  15. Hey, Chelsee!

I also really share your love for Netflix! Honestly, I can watch it for hours at a time and not get bored. Usually, one of my friends has to pry me away from my computer to get me outside. I also think it's super cool that you're a Psychology major. I took a psychology class in my freshman year, and I found it super interesting. Good luck with your semester - I look forward to reading some of your work!

  16. Hi Chels!

I don’t know how I haven’t commented on your introduction yet but here I am now! I obviously already know a lot about you but I was glad to see your mention of Harry Potter because I am also such a huge fan. I also have really been into cooking for myself too but venturing out into crazy things can definitely be scary. But hey, you spend less money!

  17. Hi Chelsee!
It's so great to meet another person who loves reading and Netflix too! I'm watching Friends as I type this--it's about the zillionth time that I've watched it, just because it's what I let play when I'm doing homework. I'm actually one of those people who have never read Harry Potter, but I've read a ton of other Harry Potter type stuff (the popular YA fiction we all love so much) and fantasy is my favorite. It's so cool that you've got your plan all in place. I'm sure you'll be an awesome dean!

  18. Hi Chelsea,

Wow that's crazy that your graduating class was only thirty two students! Your town must be a really small town. I love the show, The Office. It is one of my favorite show! I am currently rewatching that show and also started a new show How I Met Your Mother. I try to control myself from watching too much as I always have school work to finish first. It is hard though cause once you start on one episode, it could lead to watching like five haha. I love Harry Potter as well, I even made my project around it. Good luck for future and this class!

  19. Chelsea!!!!

Fancy seeing you here! It was so fun to read your introduction, and it was cool to see what you do in your free time! I love Braums as well, I will definitely have to try the Cappuccino Chocolate Chip flavor! It's so great that you like to read, I know that will help you throughout life. I try to read as much as I can, but I always get caught up in schoolwork (and maybe watching Netflix for a little while). Speaking of that, I also love the Office; I am working on watching all the seasons! It's so crazy that you're a senior! Have a great rest of your senior year, and I can't wait to read some of your posts!

  20. Hi again Chelsee!
My computer keeps trying to auto correct your name, and it doesn't seem to care when I yell at it for being rude. Anyway, wow that is a super small graduating class! You most have known absolutely everyone that you went to school with. I'm a big reader/netflix watcher as well, but I think I'm going to have to up my netflix adventurism...I am apparently way behind. I'm one of those people that likes to keep re-watching and re-reading stuff that I know I like and it interferes with finding new things. You have inspired me to step out of my comfort zone! Good luck on the rest of this semester and good luck in the future!

Growth Mindset: Cats

Using the randomizer I found a couple of cats that I really liked either because they were cute, funny, relatable, or all of the above! The first one was adorable and very accurate. I've found the more I write the better I get at it, especially when it comes to my personal statements. The second meme made me laugh. I've always been a goal setter and while it can be sad to miss your goal it's good to even get close to reaching it because there is always next time! Cat Meme 1 Cat Meme 2
