There were these two little boys who had grown up on the same street ever since they were born. They were best friends, always hanging out and playing together. Their names were Mike and Will. Neither Mike or Will were happy unless they were together.
One day Mike went to go knock on Will's door to see if he wanted to play soccer with him. No one answered the door, which was odd because Will or his parents were always home. Then he looked around back for a car and sure enough there wasn't a car. Mike started to freak out because if Will was going to go somewhere he definitely would have told Mike. Because Mike had been watching a lot of scary movies, since it was October of course, he decided Will and his family had obviously been kidnapped. Mike knew the entry code to get into Will's house so he decided to go inside and see if he could figure out what happened so he could let the police know.
Mike hastily entered the code and ran up to Will's room, but he wasn't there. So Mike went to go check the play room, bathroom, living room and finally the kitchen, but there was no sign of Will, his parents, or any reason to think they had been kidnapped.
Mike ran home and asked his parents if they knew where Will was, but alas his parents were of no help. They did convince Mike that nothing bad had happened to them, but Will probably just forgot to tell him they were going on vacation.
Without Will, Mike began to get bored and sad. Another two days went by with no sign of Will or his parents. Mike wouldn't come out of his room and barely ate. Will was his best friend and he had no idea where he was! He didn't know what to do or how to act!
Finally, late one night, Mike hears a car pull up to Will's house. Mike jumps out of bed and rushes to his window. Out popped three people that he could clearly recognize even though it was dark outside. It was Will and his parents!
Mike was so excited he ran outside to go see Will, but then we got to Will he started asking all of these questions. To Mike's surprise, Will only didn't tell Mike because he didn't know himself that his family were going anywhere. The night before they left, Will's parents surprised him and his brother with a trip to DisneyWorld, and he didn't have time to tell Mike before they had to leave. Will couldn't call because both his parents forgot their phone chargers at the house.
Mike told Will of all the crazy thoughts that went through his head, and how sad he was when Will was gone. It was then they decided to never be apart again, and to get cell phones to let each other know where they were at all times.

Author's Note:
Well I binge watched Stranger Things this weekend, and thats where I got the names from. I thought about making it more similar to Stranger Things but then decided that could get a little too complicated. Anyways, the story of the elephant and the dog is very similar to my own. In the original, the dog is given away by the circus owners and the elephant becomes distraught without his best friend. Finally when the elephant trainer realizes why the elephant is so sad he forces the circus owners to go retrieve the dog from the man they gave it to. Once the dog and elephant were reunited, both were happy as could be. I decided it would be fun to make the main characters human to showcase how important friendship is as well as communication.
I totally noticed that your character names matched the characters from Stranger Things, haha! But for the story itself, I thought it was clever and interesting! This was a Jataka, and I love to read those (that is what I am doing my project over). Making the characters human was a great way to make the characters more relatable. In order to give more detail in the story about the characters, you could add dialogue. This would give some of the insight about what the characters were thinking when conversing with the others. Other than that, I loved the storyline. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHi Chelsee!
ReplyDeleteI just started watching Stranger Things, so I immediately thought of those characters when I started reading your story. I think that using human characters, instead of animals, was a good choice for this story since it's about friendship. I've written a couple of different stories based on jatakas, and I feel like some work better with animal characters, but this is a good exception. You did a really good job of conveying the panic that poor Mike was feeling when he couldn't find his friend. I felt so bad for the little guy!
Chelsee,
ReplyDeleteWhen you first said the name of the characters I was immediately like "YES STRANGER THINGS!!!!" I loved your story and it does a great job of resembling the Jataka you wanted it to. Wow, I wish my parents would surprise me with a trip to Disney world. Deep down I think that may be the dream of any child!
