One morning, a very pregnant woman named Sita woke up and started her day just like every other day, but today would be the day that she would give birth to her four boys. After she woke up, she went about her day like normal, she went to yoga class and then went to work. At work she started having contractions but decided they were far enough apart that she didn't need to worry.
A couple hours later, her contractions started getting closer together - about 7 minutes apart - so she called her husband, Dasaratha, and they decided it was time to go to the hospital! After today they were going to be parents, they were so excited!
Once her labor begun, the sky turned dark which was awfully peculiar since it was only 3:00 pm so it should've been totally bright outside and in that moment and her first son was born, Bharata. Even though she was tired, she still had three more boys.
As her second son was about to be born, it started to get really windy and rain started pouring. Right after her second son, Lakshmana was born it all stopped and the storm calmed down and the sky cleared.
Her third son, Shatrughna, was born and as his birth occurred the all the birds from around the town came and sat perched on the window sill of the hospital room. When the baby began to cry all the birds scattered and none were in sight.
Finally, she was almost done, she just had to give birth to one last son, Rama. As he was being born, the sky became extremely bright and a lighting bolt came down from the sky and struck outside the hospital window. Rama was also glowing like a cosmic being and then just as quick as the glow appeared it disappeared and he returned to looking like a normal baby.
All of the four babies were happy and healthy, and both parents were excited and happy about their new family. All four of the sons would grow up to be great, but especially Rama. He would grow up to be a great man and a hero to all.

Authors Note: I decided to retell the story of the birth of Dasaratha's sons. In the original story all four sons had different mothers, and when Rama was born he transformed into a cosmic being since he is a avatar of Krishna. So I decided to make all four of the sons have something cosmic occurrence, but Rama's be a little more out of the world.

Nice! I like what you did with using weather to represent the fathers of each of the sons. Your story is well written, and has no writing flaws! Well done on that account. I was a little confused when Sita was giving birth to Rama however, because the two were lovers. The best part of the story is honestly the beginning when Sita is just a regular pregnant woman, going to her yoga classes and what-not.
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange and unique way to make the story of heroes births feel more epic. I think this is a very good modern retelling of those heroes births and it wouldn't be out of place in a huge book with this as a short introductory chapter. I like all the different things you chose for the characters, I almost feel like going back and reading to figure out what inspired all of them. Almost but I'm a bit too lazy.
ReplyDeleteWow! I think the way you managed to represent the births was absolutely fascinating. It was really creative of you to make it set in modern times. I think it much more relatable to readers who are not knowledgeable about the Ramayana to be able to read something set in modern times. The way you developed all of your characters in an action packed, descriptive manner was really effective, too. Great job!
